Unlike the story in the Bible, Joseph and Mary approach Bethlehem from opposite directions. Joseph makes his way along the road from the east end of the village. Mary slowly moves along the road from the west end of the village.Also unlike the story in the Bible (or like it in ways we may not have guessed) both of them are filled with images of those of us here at Holden, young and old alike...Joseph with the males, Mary with the females.
Very soon now, they will be together in Bethlehem. A manger awaits.
